Sourdough Toaster Waffles
July 21, 2020
I am 100% a waffle person. Some prefer pancakes, or crepes. I will take a waffle every single day. These waffles are easy, delicious, and also use up some of the discarded sourdough starter that accumulates as I make sourdough breads.

Servings 12 mini waffles
Equipment
- Waffle-maker
Ingredients
- ½ cup leftover sourdough starter unfed
- 1 cup milk
- 2 Tbsp unsalted butter melted
- 1 egg
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 tsp baking powder
Instructions
- Whisk your leftover starter, milk, butter, and egg together until smooth. Add flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt, and whisk until smooth.
- Lightly coat the waffle iron with cooking spray. Add batter to your waffle iron as appropriate for your particular model (I find that just slightly less that 1/4 up is perfect for the Dash Mini waffle maker).
- Repeat until you are out of batter.
- Service with butter, maple syrup, fruit, jam, whipped cream, cinnamon and sugar, whatever makes your waffles happy!
Notes
- The downside of the Dash Mini Maker is that it really can take a while to make a large batch of waffles, I’ll usually make them in the background while I’m doing other things in the kitchen.
- I will usually eat a few of the waffles right away, and then use my Foodsaver to seal up and save 2 to 3 so that I can freeze them and reheat them in the toaster whenever I’m in the mood for waffles.
