About

Re: My approach to this website

I curate the recipes and tutorials on this site, not just for you, but also for myself. I find myself frustrated as I attempt to read recipe blogs and find myself assaulted with pages of personal story and multiple ads and pop-ups per paragraph. I don’t find it an enjoyable experience.

While I will add a paragraph or two per recipe, it is usually either notes on how to succeed with that recipe, or a very brief story of how the recipe came to be. Many of these recipes come from friends and family, and I know they enjoy seeing their contributions recognized.

As far as ads are concerned, when I first started this site I did attempt to have Amazon ads, or Google ads, but I found that they detracted from my own enjoyment of the site as I would go back and reference my own recipes on a regular basis. So now the only ads are ones that I have created for my own Shop – I appreciate your support, and try not to overwhelm with intrusive ads. I do have Amazon Affiliate links to products that I use, and I may receive a commission on them, however it does not effect your price.

Re: Crafting and Tutorials

In regards to yarn crafts – I have been knitting and crocheting for over 20 years (I’m not that old, I just started young), and only recently have I found the confidence to begin writing my own patterns. On this site I intend to curate my own patterns.

As of recently I’m venturing into spinning and weaving as well, so be on the look out for new types of projects and patterns in the future!

And while it may not be considered a typical yarn craft – cross-stitching I’m finding is one of my favorite hobbies here in Texas, as the sweltering heat doesn’t deter me as much as it might prevent knitting or crochet.

Re: Cooking

In general, the type of cooking I prefer involves simple ingredients. I love being able to go into my pantry, fridge, or garden, and have the materials I need to make a delicious dinner. I’m slowly creating a list of bare bones ingredients that are shelf stable (or can be made so with freeze-drying) as well as some simple staples, to always have what I call my ‘Prepared Pantry.’

My husband and I have also been experimenting with freeze-drying our own food — Why would we do such a thing? — we love to camp! We love having recipes that we can just add boiling water and be ready to go with a delicious home cooked meal in the wilderness. We also prefer to be prepared – after living in locations where we might frequently be home-bound for days or weeks due to blizzards or floods, we appreciate being prepared without having to make a mad dash to the grocery store.
