Country White Loaf - for the bread machine

Ingredients
  

1 lb loaf (500g)

  • 1 cup water
  • ¾ Tbsp olive oil
  • ¾ Tbsp sugar
  • cups bread flour
  • 1⅛ Tbsp corn starch
  • Tbsp powdered dry milk
  • ¾ Tbsp vital wheat gluten flour
  • 1⅛ tsp salt
  • tsp active dry yeast

1.5 lb loaf (750g) - RECOMMENDED

  • 1⅓ cup water
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • Tbsp corn starch
  • 3 Tbsp powdered dry milk
  • 1 Tbsp vital wheat gluten flour
  • tsp salt
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast

2 lb loaf (1000g)

  • 1⅔ cup water
  • Tbsp olive oil
  • Tbsp sugar
  • cups bread flour
  • Tbsp corn starch heaping
  • Tbsp powdered dry milk
  • Tbsp vital wheat gluten flour
  • tsp salt heaping
  • tsp active dry yeast

Instructions
 

  • Add all ingredients to the pan of your bread machine, in the order recommended by your manufacturer.
  • Bake on the basic, light bread, standard loaf setting for your machine.
  • Allow to cool before slicing.

Notes

RECIPE UPDATE: Recently I have attempted making this bread into a sandwich bun (hoagie style) and I have to say it is fantastic. Like Portillo's and Jimmy John's sandwiches got together.
To make the sandwich buns:
  1. Prepare the dough as typical, setting your bread machine to 'Dough'
  2. Remove the dough and separate into 4 (for large hoagies) or 8 (for individual servings) portions.
  3. Roll the dough into rolls or buns. Transfer to baking sheet and cover. Allow to rise for 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  5. Bake for 30 minutes.
  6. Transfer to wire rack and allow to cool before serving.
